The French Association for Euro-Asian Theatrical Exchange (AFETEA)
The Association Française des Échanges Théâtraux Euro-Asiatiques (AFETEA) is a non-profit academic and cultural organization dedicated to fostering theatrical creation, research, education, and international collaboration between Europe and Asia. Founded on June 24, 2024, in Paris by a collective of artists from multiple countries, AFETEA aims to promote meaningful cross-cultural exchange and long-term partnerships within the global performing arts community.
Headquartered in Paris, AFETEA also maintains liaison offices in Avignon, Seoul, Beijing, and Shanghai.
The association was initiated by Zhao Miao and Célia.
Mission & Statement
AFETEA is committed to advancing theatrical exchange between Europe and Asia by establishing effective channels that connect theater practitioners with institutions across both regions. Our mission is to enhance collaboration in the fields of theatrical creation, performing arts education, academic research, stage practice, festival programming, and critical discourse.
We aim to create a dedicated platform for creators, scholars, and advocates who focus on intercultural theater and the role of the body in contemporary performance and other live arts. Through this, we seek to support the long-term, sustainable development of theater across Euro-Asian contexts.
To promote Euro-Asian theatrical exchange, foster multicultural integration, and champion interdisciplinary expression through embodied performance.
President & Governing Board
President
AFETEA is led by one President and one Executive Vice President, both based at the General Assembly. The President and Executive Vice President serve a five-year term and are elected through a voting process conducted by the members of the Governing Board.
Governing Board
The Governing Board consists of 9 members, nominated and invited by the President and Executive Vice President. Each term lasts five years. The board also includes one Secretary, one to two Deputy Secretaries, and one Director of Finance—all appointed by the President and Executive Vice President.
Specialized Committees
In accordance with the association’s development needs, AFETEA may establish specialized research committees. Each committee may include a Chair, Vice Chair(s), and a Secretary. The selection process for these roles follows the same procedure as the general election system of the association.
